Chemical Characterization of Microcystis aeruginosa for Feed and Energy Uses

Cyanobacterial blooms and strains absorb carbon dioxide, drawing attention to its use as feed for animals renewable energy sources. However, cyanobacteria can produce toxins have a low heating value. Herein, we studied cyanobacterial strain harvested during bloom event analyzed it animal source of supply. The thermal properties the contents total nitrogen, protein, carbohydrate, fatty acids, lipid, presence cyanotoxins were investigated in Microcystis aeruginosa LTPNA 01 material. Microcystins (hepatotoxins) not detected this nor material by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that degradation reactions (devolatilization) initiated at around 180 °C, dropping from approximately 90% 20% samples’ mass. Our work despite presenting value, both biomass non-toxic M. could be used sources either burning or producing biofuels. Both considered protein carbohydrate similar some microalgae species well fuel. It also additive feed; however, safety potential adverse health effects should further investigated.
